The Fault in Our Stars

The Fault in Our Stars

Written by modern literary marvel, John Green, The Fault in Our Stars has received much praise, including the #1 New York Times Bestseller. The Fault in Our Stars is a classic tale of a forbidden love story. Antagonist, Hazel Grace Lancaster, falls madly in love with the charming Augustus Waters when they meet at a cancer therapy group session, but Hazel’s terminal cancer has an impending explosion on this young love.

Everyone has fallen in love with this diverse love tale and its sharp comedic banter. The story was meticulously brought together, keeping readers on their toes. It was quite insightful and, nonetheless intellectually stimulating. It was hard to stop reading. With the use of well-placed dark humor, Green stepped over the barriers that society has placed on the topic of cancer and death in general. He boldly utilized this and brought somewhat of a better understanding to the impending outcome of everyone’s life. In simpler terms, this novel made you think. It made you think about death specifically. Readers are brought into another world in this book: the world of Hazel Grace, terminal cancer patient. It’s puzzling as to how 36 year-old John Green captured the essence of a typical 16 year-old girl better than most 16 year-old girls could have, and on top of that, capturing the essence of a child with cancer.

Because of its flourishing popularity, the bittersweet love tale is planned to hit the big screens June 6. The film is being directed by Josh Boone, known for directing Stuck in Love. Hazel Grace is to be played by actress Shailene Woodley, known for her roles in The Descendants, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and Divergent. Augustus Waters is to be played by the equally charming Ansel Elgort, known for his roles in Carrie and Divergent. The film was announced completed back in December and fans have since anxiously awaited. In fact, this book has roused up quite a fan base already. By the looks of it this uproar of dedicated fans is comparable to the ‘Twilight’ or ‘Hunger Games’ fads. The book surely left readers wanting more of these two lovers, hopefully the movie is able to deliver just what is needed.
