The Olympic Heights Softball team ended its two-game losing streak – which followed four straight wins to open the season – by beating Boynton Beach 17-2 in three innings, Tuesday, Feb. 28, running their season record to 5-2 on the season.

OH jumped out to an early 10-1 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Peri Spector notched the first two RBIs of the game with a single and added a third in her second at bat of the inning.

Pitcher Alex Perez recorded the win, allowing just three hits and striking out six to improve her record to 2-1. Perez helped her own cause at the plate with three RBIs while Madison Cote and Lilly Paul each had two.

The 4-0 start to the Lions’ season was highlighted by a 10-0 rout of district rival West Boca in a five-inning, mercy-rule win. It was the first ever OH softball win over West Boca that saw the Lions plate six runs in the bottom of the second inning putting West Boca in an early deep hole and seemingly crushing any fight the Bulls might have had in them.

The win over West Boca followed wins over Cardinal Newman 9-2, Forest Hill 11-0, and Atlantic 11-0. In those first four wins, the Lions outscored their opponents 41-2. Perez pitched a no-hitter in the win over Atlantic while freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Cunningham (3-1) earned the victories over West Boca, Forest Hill, and Cardinal Newman.

After the four game winning streak to open the season, the Lions lost to Suncoast 2-1 on a fielding error in the late innings, and then ran into a buzz saw in Wellington losing 12-1, Monday, Feb. 27.

The Lions offensive attack has been lead by third baseman Theresa Stettner, catcher Kelly Montilla, and Cunningham. Stettner currently holds a .524 batting average and leads the team with 12 RBis. Cunningham is hitting an even .500 and has seven runs scored, while Montilla currently carries a .400 batting average.

The Lions will next play Boca Raton at home on Thursday, March 2 at 6:00pm.
