OH Theatre Dept. Stages Anything Goes April 20 through 22

Anything Goes, a beloved musical originally debuted in 1934 on Broadway, is set to run at Olympic Heights theater on April 20 through 22. The dedicated and award winning performers of Troupe 4992 have been rehearsing and preparing for the show all year long, in between performances at the district and state level.  This year’s cast features several graduating seniors anxious to leave their mark on the OH stage in their final performances.

The play revolves around the zany antics aboard a cruise ship liner that is headed from New York to London. Featuring Jessica Thurber as sexy nightclub singer Reno Sweeney, the audience can expect to sing along to such classics as “Anything Goes” and “I Get a Kick Out of You.”  Along with toe-tapping tunes, the show features tap dancing and eye catching costumes and scenery.

The character Moonface, portrayed by Brian Araujio, provides comic relief.  Brian’s portrayal is so over the top it is almost impossible not to laugh the moment his character appears on stage. Commenting on how he relates to his character, Araujio says, “I think the most spot on resemblance between our personalities is the fact that we both like bringing amusement and joy to those who need happiness in their lives for either personal reasons or just for the heck of it.”

Putting on a stellar show does not come without some hiccups. Despite the months of rigorous preparation, several members of the cast share that the hardest part of the process was having to improvise when one of the leads dropped out of the show just weeks before it opened. Being seasoned veterans in show business, the cast adopted a “show must go on” attitude and acted as professionals would during this unexpected turn of events.

As hard as the actors are working, the reason they are giving their all is because they love what they do and the people they get to do it with. Julia Eisenberg, who portrays the character of Hope, says her favorite part of the show is “being able to laugh with the cast and become closer with all the new people in the department. This show is sure to be a memorable end my days on the Olympic Heights stage.”  It is heartwarming to learn that the members of Troupe 4992 feel like a family, a surefire ingredient to a smooth running show.

This show is sure to be one of the best musicals ever to be put on at OH. Performances of Anything Goes are Friday April 20 at 3:15pm, Saturday April 21 at 7:00pm, Sunday, April 23 at 2:00pm. Tickets are $5.00 for students, $15.00 for adults, and $10.00 for senior citizens.
