Offset delves into the importance of family and the related mistakes he has made on his Father of 4 album.

On Feb. 22, three mainstream hip hop artists released new albums: Offset from the rap group Migos released his debut solo album with Father of 4; Gunna released Drip or Drown 2; and Lil Pump released Harverd Dropout. All projects made the day memorable for all hip hop fans.

Offset’s Father of 4 holds the most meaning throughout its tracks. The album follows fellow Migo members’ solo albums QUAVO HUNCHO by Quavo and The Last Rocket by Takeoff. Offset’s album is the best out of the three new releases, for the meaning portrayed in the songs shows what Offset has done to get to where he is today and what he has gone through, especially in late 2018.

In late 2018, Offset’s wife, Cardi B, announced the two were splitting after Offset allegedly cheated on her. In “Don’t Lose Me,” he raps about his mistakes saying that he broke their promise of being loyal to each other. He calls himself a “selfish and messed up husband” in order to apologize to his wife for his mistakes. Earlier this year, the two were seen together in public and later announced they were back together.

On the intro song “Father of 4” featuring Big Rube, Offset slowly raps about each of his four children and also apologizes to them for the lack of a father figure he has been and promises to “keep grindin’” for his kids. He gives his apology to his kids Jordan, Kody, Kalea, and Kulture.

On “Red Room,” he talks about his near fatal car accident back in May of 2018. He suffered many injuries after totaling his green Dodge Challenger. He reflects back on the crash by saying he feels sick when thinking back on what could have happened.

It would not be a Migos album if there were not songs about the success and build up of the rappers. Offset got J Cole to rap on “How Did I Get Here” to help him chronicle the hard work both had to do in order to achieve success. Travis Scott and 21 Savage hop on “Legacy” to talk about their status as well known celebrities in the genre. Quavo raps of their wealth during “On Fleek,” and Gucci Mane helps offset on “Quarter Milli,” which also features a Youtube music video. Finally, Cardi B helps her husband on “Clout,” which calls out haters and gave shoutouts to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.

Six of the 16 songs are included in the top 100 rap/hip hop songs on Apple Music. Overall, Offset’s Father of 4 is a solid album with great tracks all around.

Rapper Gunna released Drip or Drown 2, and his first major project of the year does not disappoint. Using his slower rhymes talking about his rise to success and his current wealth, Gunna adds a diverse style to the rap genre. Drip or Drown 2 helps Gunna make his case to be apart of the XXL Freshman Class, awarded to upcoming artists in the genre.

Gunna promoted the album by posting the creative album cover all over social media. Along with social media promotion, he released a single track “One Call,” which also revealed the release of a future album. Tracks such as “One Call,” “Richard Millie Plain,” and “3 Headed Snake” featuring Young Thug are among the top tracks of the album.

13 of the 16 tracks on the album reside in the top 100 hip hop songs on Apple Music charts. “Yao Ming,” “Cash War,” and “Outstanding” were among those 13 tracks. Clearly, Drip or Drown 2 will have a great impact on the hip hop community proven by its outstanding numbers.

Finally, Lil Pump released his second solo album with Harverd Dropout. His persona as a dropout from an outstanding university coincides with his purposeful misspelling of the school’s name adding to his persona as a crazy, over-the-top artist.

Back in August of 2018, he reportedly lost the files to the album. He hyped the album for months before its release in February of 2019. Although it does not disappoint, it is not the best album and the least of the three Feb. 22 releases. Nevertheless, while Lil Pump is not known for being a lyrical genius, he is rather known for releasing repetitive and catchy songs. He does the same with this album, which is why people will still enjoy listening to it.

Before the anticipated release of the album, Pump released singles “I Love It” featuring Kanye West, “Butterfly Doors,” “Racks on Racks,” “Esskeetit,” “Drug Addicts,” and “Multi Millionaire” featuring Lil Uzi Vert, all of which are on Harverd Dropout. All songs did well at the time of their release, and all but “Multi Millionaire” featured music videos at the time of the album release.

As for the rest of the songs, artist Smokepurpp combines with Pump’s similar style on “ION,” Quavo collabs with Lil Pump for the first time on “Too Much Ice,” and rap legend Lil Wayne steals the show on “Be Like Me,” including on the music video of the track on Youtube.

Although Pump’s latest album is enjoyable, his ratings on Apple Music do not show it with no songs appearing on the top 200 hip hop tracks and with the album itself residing at 44 on the top hip hop albums. However, Lil Pump provides many enjoyable tracks for his fans.
