OH SPORTS WRAP: Cross Country has strong showings; golf sends two players to regionals; Special Olympics bowling has two first place finishers

Members of the Olympic Heights boys’ cross country team celebrate a strong showing.

CROSS COUNTRY: The Olympic Heights cross country team finished in fourth place at the city championship, only 15 points behind third place St. Andrews. At the South County Conference Meet, the team finished third, eight points behind second place Spanish River. The boys’ team earned one medal for a 13th place finish and the girls’ team received two medals for a 12th and 13th place finish.

BOYS GOLF: Oliver Kiely shot a one under par 71 at the boys’ golf District 13-3A championship tournament at Delray Beach Golf Club on Tuesday, Oct. 16. Kiely advances to the Region 4-3A championship tournament representing Olympic Heights as an individual player. The entire team finished in fourth place at the district tournament, just one spot out of qualifying for the region tournament as a team. The team finished the regular season with a 4-4 record.

GIRLS GOLF: Gillian Lapis shot a 103 at the girls’ golf District 13-3A championship tournament at Delray Beach Golf Club on Monday, Oct. 16. Lapis advances to the Region 4-3A championship tournament representing Olympic Heights as an individual player. The girls’ golf team finished the regular season with a 4-4 record, its best season in years.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS: Bowling athletes Angelo Guzman-Munoz and Ethan Litman each finished in first place in their respective divisions at the Special Olympics Area Games held over the Oct. 12 weekend, competing against athletes from four different counties.  It will be determined in November if Guzman-Munoz and Litman will represent Palm Beach County at the State competition.
