SWIMMING/DIVING: Olympic Heights diver Danielle Anglin placed second at the District 10-3A diving tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 29. Anglin is the first diver OH has had in a number of years. Anglin, who is the first diver in years for the Lions, advances to the Region 4-3A diving tournament to be held at Boca Raton High School on Friday, Nov. 8.

OH girls swim team captain Sarah Nelson also qualified for the 100 meter freestyle Region 4-3A tournament by putting in a time of 1:01.51 at the District 10-3A tournament.

OH boys golf team members (from left to right) Joe DiTamasso, jack Panos, Mason Silverstein, and Spencer Levy competed at the Adam Straub Memorial Golf Tournament at Delray Beach Golf Club Saturday, Oct. 26. The tournament was held to raise money and awareness for organ donations.

GIRLS SOCCER: The Girls Soccer Team won both of their matches Monday, Nov. 4, with shutout victories over Somerset Canyons and Palm Beach Lakes at the Olympic Heights hosted preseason jamboree.

The 3-0 win over Somerset Canyons featured goals by freshmen Emily Graham and Devyn Gilman  and junior Alyssa Smith. Junior Leah Goldwaser had two assists in the first win.

In the 4-0 win over Palm Beach Lakes in the Lions second match of the night, freshmen Lindsey Osinoff scored three goals, and Skylar Deutch also added a goal to finish off the scoring. Deutch, Alyssa Smith, Devyn Gilman and Hannah Dowzall each added assists.

The Lions will open their regular season on Monday, Nov, 11, in a home match against conference rival Spanish River.

FOOTBALL: The Olympic Heights football team finished off the final two games of the 2019 season with losses to West Boca on Oct. 25 and Santaluces on Oct. 31 to close out their season with a 2-8 record. In both games, the OH defense had no answer for their opponents’ running game.

The previously winless West Boca Bulls jumped out to an early 14-0 on the Lions in the Oct. 25 contest. The Lions were able to pull within seven points early in the second quarter on two-yard touchdown run by Nick Palmenteri which capped off a 71-yard drive. However, the Bulls answered quickly as on their very next play from scrimmage they scored on a 43-yard touchdown run.

In the third quarter the Bulls went on a 92-yard scoring drive to stretch their lead to 28-7. The Lions responded with a 61-yard scoring drive of their own, capped off by a Blake Moreland to Charles Davis 35-yard touchdown pass. The Bulls then came back with two touchdown drives of 52 yards and 64 yards to seal the 43-14 win.

The Lions season-ending loss to Santaluces was a mistake and penalty filled game for both teams that saw the Lions and the Chiefs tied at 7-7 in the third quarter. The Chiefs’ first scored came on their second possession of the game off of a 14-play, 80-yard drive. The Lions were able to tie the game in the third quarter with one-yard quarterback sneak by Moreland that capped off a 75-yard scoring drive.

However, the fourth quarter saw Santaluces put the game safely away with a 75-yard touchdown run and one-yard touchdown quarterback keeper that was sent up by the Chief’s interception of Moreland pass that was returned down to the Lions 5-yard line.

BOYS GOLF: Three freshmen and one sophomore from the Olympic Heights boys golf team competed in the Second Annual Adam Straub Memorial Golf Tournament at Delray Beach Golf Club Saturday, Oct. 26. All proceeds from the tournament went towards the Florida Organ Transplant Association. The OH foursome of sophomore Joe DiTamasso and freshmen Jack Panos, Fresh Mason Silverstein, and Fresh Spencer Levy was the only Palm Beach County high school team to participate in the scramble tournament. The OH team shot a four-over-par 78.
