Florida State Wins National Championship, Completes Perfect Season
January 7, 2014
In one of the most entertaining national championship games in BCS history, the Florida State Seminoles scored a touchdown with 13 seconds left to go and beat Auburn 34-31 on Monday night at the Rose Bowl.
In the final 6 minutes, four touchdowns were scored. When Auburn’s Tre Mason stormed into the end zone with a 38-yard TD run with about a minute left, it seemed as if Auburn would keep the SEC National Championship streak alive. But, with two timeouts and a Heisman trophy winner on their side, Florida State drove down the field 77 yards and completed a TD pass to Kelvin Benjamin for the victory.
Florida State entered the game as the overwhelming favorite, but Auburn dominated the first half by outscoring Florida State 21-3. But by the 4th quarter, the Seminoles rallied and ended up taking their first lead of the 2nd half when Levonte Whitfield went 100 yards to the house on a kickoff return.
In a game that marked the end an era, the BCS sure did come out on top on what was easily one of the most thrilling national championship games in BCS history
