The Netflix series Wednesday, which portrays the iconic Addams Family characters in a whole new light, is an exciting and fascinating series that captured viewers and had them on the edge of their seats through its first season. With actors such as Jenna Ortega, Christina Ricci, Emma Myers, and Gwendoline Christie the show quickly developed a large fan base across the globe. 

The Addams Family is the creation of Charles Addams and began as a single panel cartoon first appearing in The New Yorker in 1938. It was developed into a sitcom for television in 1964, running 64 episodes into 1968. The macabre family has also been featured in two major films, The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993). 

The Netflix series centers around Wednesday Addams, the ghoulish family’s now teenage daughter, who is set to attend Nevermore Academy. At her new school, she decides to uncover the strange mysteries of her unique environment and unlock the hidden secrets of Nevermore while meeting the other students and participating in school activities.   

The series’ executive producer Tim Burton is well known for his creative vision and hit films such as Edward Scissorhands, Corpse Bride, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. The design of the costumes, sets, and interesting choices in camera work and dialogue reflect Burton’s style as well as the admirable efforts from those working on the series from behind the camera.   

Very soon after Wednesday came out, it became extremely popular on Netflix and earned a massive following. The show became talked about across the internet, including on social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter.

On TikTok, the show sparked multiple trends including users’ attempts at recreating a dance that the character Wednesday did during one particular scene of the show. 

The overall reaction to Wednesday has been incredibly positive with most viewers becoming big fans of the show. Olympic Heights junior Gabriella Davis says, “I watched it and I liked it a lot, and I thought the plot twist was very unexpected and good along with the characters of the show.”

Many of the show’s viewers became engaged and attentive fans not only of Wednesday but of the actors themselves. Jenna Ortega, the actress that plays the lead character, has become extremely popular since the show’s premiere and has become an even bigger star, being spotted at special events such as this year’s Golden Globe Awards. 

Due to the amount of attention the show has received on the internet since its release, more and more people have had the opportunity to become aware of it and watch it for themselves and form their own opinions on it. OH senior Samantha Levick, comments, “I liked it. I like all of the actors who were in it, and the plot was interesting enough, a little predictable at times but overall a good show.”

The incredible success that the show received from its first season gave Netflix good reason to announce that Wednesday will be getting a second season. This fantastic news that has received a great response from the enthusiastic fans and viewers cannot wait to see what the next season will bring. 

Many fans are eager for the second season of Wednesday to start production so that they can enjoy yet another jammed packed season of the wild and adventurous series that has taken the world by storm.
