Executing an exuberant rendition, the Olympic Heights Theatre department took flight last fall with Boeing Boeing, a dynamic farce based on the original 1960s French production by Marc Camoletti.
Boeing Boeing portrays the story of Bernard, who has meticulously arranged his life around three fiancées, each an airline stewardess from different airlines. Initially, Bernard is at ease managing his relationships, as each woman’s schedule seems ideally coordinated so that they are not in Paris at the same time; however, things become turbulent when their flight schedules become unexpectedly unpredictable, jettisoning Bernard’s carefully crafted routine into chaotic disarray.
The play is filled with impeccable comedic timing and flawless chemistry—elements that only a cast as talented as Troupe 4992 could encapsulate. Auditions for Boeing Boeing began at the end of the last school year. The following Troupe members were selected to star in the production: Jeronimo Dorado as Bernard, an American playboy living in Paris; Blake Rubin as Robert, Bernard’s friend; Piper Fine as American stewardess Gloria; Rio Klein as German stewardess Gretchen; Ava Troiano as Italian stewardess Gabriella; and Gali Amsalem Shalev as Berthe, Bernard’s French housekeeper. Since the selection, the theatre department persistently worked toward the completion of the production. Both the crew and cast deserve all the congratulations for their unwavering dedication and hard work in bringing this complex comedy to life.
The success of this production reflects the department’s growth and ambition, which echoes the high standards set by the original West End and Broadway runs.
Theatre Director Kimberly Coyle found Boeing Boeing to be the perfect choice for the department to tackle this past fall, deriving inspiration from a previous state competition’s portrayal of it. She described this production as “physically challenging” and thought it would be “a good fit for the Troupe to incorporate humor.”
“Our rehearsals for this production have been nothing short of uproarious,” she continued. “Laughter echoed through the halls as our talented cast navigated the intricacies of their roles, bringing to life the absurdity and charm of the story.” Throughout the production, Coyle delegated an array of responsibilities to her students, from managing props to overseeing lighting and sound, giving them invaluable hands-on experience in every element of theatre production. The students’ devotion and collaboration were essential in making this performance come to life.
For Piper Fine (Class of 2026), Boeing Boeing was a particularly gratifying experience. She shared that “Boeing Boeing was really fun to work on because the small cast made it more intimate and made it enjoyable to explore different aspects of our characters.”
Similarly, Rio Klein (Class of 2026) expressed, “Boeing Boeing was such an amazing experience that bonded everyone who got the chance to be part of it. I played Gretchen, and I’ve never had more fun playing a character. Everyone in the cast has grown so much as actors through our roles.”
This intensive experience, especially given the opportunity to collaborate within such a close-knit group, truly turned out to be an invaluable one for everyone involved. With a skilled and passionate group like Troupe 4992, it’s evident that the future of Olympic Heights Theatre proffers a world of exhilarating possibilities.
Troupe 4992’s next production, Into the Woods, will showcase another talented group of actors at four performances: Feb. 21 at 7 pm, Feb. 22 at 7 pm, Feb. 23 at 2 pm, and Feb. 25 at 3 pm.
