Introducing the No Place for Hate Program
Olympic Heights has recently joined the No Place for Hate program, a student-led initiative that was created by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). The ADL is a non-profit organization originally founded in 1913 to stop the defamation of Jewish people. Its mission has since evolved to prevent all forms of bias globally and ensure an inclusive society through partnerships.
No Place for Hate’s purpose is to ensure schools provide a safe space and climate for students to thrive. The program encourages students, administrators, teachers, and families to educate themselves on bullying, inclusion, and allyship.
The Pledge for a Safer, Inclusive School

Olympic Heights is one of 1,900 schools across the U.S. implementing this program with full force. Clear expectations and requirements must be met to align with the mission of the program. The organization is integrated into our school in a multitude of ways. It launched at the beginning of the school year by introducing the No Place for Hate Pledge.
No Place for Hate Pledge
I WILL SEEK TO GAIN understanding
of those who are different from myself.
I WILL SPEAK OUT AGAINST
prejudice and discrimination.
I WILL REACH OUT to support those
who are targets of hate.
I WILL PROMOTE respect for people
and help foster a prejudice-free school.
I RECOGNIZE that respecting
individual dignity and promoting intergroup harmony are the responsibilities
of all students.
Campus Events Build Connections and Community
Deborah Posner, 9th-grade AICE General Papers teacher and No Place for Hate Coordinator, shared information about this important organization and its potential positive impact at Olympic Heights. She described a recent event on campus where “We had students out at lunch last week doing our ‘It Starts with Hello’ event. This involved having students meet, say hello, and take a picture together.” In doing so, students recognized that not everyone is a stranger and there is kindness within others. A simple event like this sparks new connections and allows Olympic Heights to create a stronger sense of community and belonging. Many students described the events as a heartwarming success. Students stepped out of their comfort zones to meet others and create a more welcoming environment.
Expanding Participation Across the County
This program is part of a larger effect in its engagement across the county. Participation in No Place for Hate is available across elementary, middle, and high schools, according to Posner. Olympic Heights plans to expand the participation of this program among students and parents. Posner also welcomes “more members who are interested in bringing people together- people of all different backgrounds, experiences, and beliefs.”
How to Get Involved with No Place for Hate

For students who would like to get involved, the No Place for Hate program is open to all students. More information can be found on their official website https://www.noplaceforhate.org/ or students who are interested in joining the movement can email [email protected] (program coordinator at Olympic Heights) or [email protected] (oversees the program district-wide).
Looking Ahead: Creating a Welcoming Future at Olympic Heights
As the program continues throughout the school year, students will be reminded that No Place for Hate is designed to unite a school community to create a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students, shared Posner. Olympic Heights will continue to host more events throughout the year to promote the program and strive to make the OH community a safe and inclusive place.
