If Apple follows its pre-established patterns, then it is safe for us to assume that there will be a new iPhone release to look forward to around September of this year.

It is likely that the iPhone will be completely redesigned, since the last release was the 6S with only minor changes; however, it is still not certain what new features will debut. Despite said uncertainty, there has been mass speculation and countless rumors spreading the Internet amongst Apple’s devout followers.

One of the most shocking rumors that has upset a great number of Apple fans is that, in order to create their thinnest model yet, Apple will remove the headphone jack from the device all together. The rumors state that there may be an adapter created to utilize the lightning port for headphone use, but it is seemingly more likely that music listeners will be forced to either use Bluetooth headphones (that would be included with purchase) or simply listen through the phone’s speaker without privacy.

In response to this, avid fans and environmentalists alike have begun to petition the company. If Apple’s design follows through with this speculation, and over time headphone jacks disappear from the market, then all wired headphones would eventually become obsolete. This will create mountains upon mountains of electronic waste, which is not only unrecyclable, but could also potentially cause harm to animals.

Other new features that may very well be possible include wireless charging ports, as seen in the Apple Watch, and an edge-to-edge touch screen with built in Apple ID recognition. Less substantial improvements may be seen as well in resolution and battery life, and it is worth mentioning that Apple is likely to discontinue 16GB storage due to the increase in the amount of space needed to house the average consumer’s music, pictures and apps.

Before the release of the iPhone 6, many guessed that Apple would use better withstanding materials to create a more durable, therefore less-likely-to-shatter phone. While that clearly was not the case then, its time may come this year.

Along with the feasible feature rumors that have gained momentum, there have been many that are simply impractical and extremely unlikely for Apple to release, including: 3D screens, curved/flexible displays, joysticks in place of the home button, and new chargers.
