The Best Countries in Which to Be a Woman

The World Economic Forum Global Gender Gap Report “examines the gap between men and women in countries in four fundamental categories: Economic Participation and Opportunity, Educational Attainment, Health and Survival, and Political Empowerment. Based on the WEF’s latest report, here are the best countries for women’s rights.

 
1. ICELAND: At the top for the fifth straight year, Iceland has 1.5 women for every man in college.
2. FINLAND: Finland’s overall score decreased in economic participation, but still holds at number 2.
3. NORWAY: Norway has closed over 84% of its gender gap in economic participation/opportunity.
4. SWEDEN: Sweden has the among the highest percentages of women in parliament.
5. PHILIPPINES: The highest ranked country of the lower-middle income grouped countries.
6. IRELAND: Ireland saw a drop in economic
participation but remains high in other indexes.
7. NEW ZEALAND: One of just two countries in the top 10 from the Asia/Pacific region.
8. DENMARK: Denmark adopted voluntary gender quotas for political parties in 1970.
9. SWITZERLAND: Switzerland saw significant gains in estimated earned income for women.
10. NICARAGUA: Nicaragua ranks fifth overall in the political empowerment index.

23. UNITED STATES: The US made moderate gains but dropped a bit due to other countries making greater gains. Time for the USA to step up its game!
