Following a 48-0 loss to Dwyer that saw its unbeaten streak come to an end and the cancellation of the Berean Christian game due to Hurricane Matthew, the Olympic Heights football team got back to its winning ways by beating the Forest Hill Falcons 20-14 on Friday, Oct. 14 at Corey Lewis Stadium, running their record to 5-1.

On the bounce back win, Head Coach Chris Kokell commented, “It just shows what we’ve been seeing all year. We are a resilient bunch. It may not be pretty but we find a way to win.”

The Lions scored all 20 of their points in the first 14 minutes of the game starting with a first possession 5-yard touchdown run by Jon Roseme. The scoring drive’s highlight came when quarterback Joey Poloskey, starting for Anthony Petillo who was out with a concussion suffered in the Dwyer game, connected with Shane Ellis on a crossing route that went for a 37-yard gain. Omar Iqab’s extra point gave the Lions an early 7-0 lead.

On the Falcons’ next possession, the Lions forced a fumble at the Forest Hill 22-yard line which set up the next OH score on a Rubens Jerome 5-yard run on the first play of the second quarter. Iqab missed the point after attempt, leaving the score at 13-0.

It was déjà-vu all over again on Forest Hill’s next possession as the Lions recovered another fumble at the Falcons’ 35-yard line. The ensuing Lions’ drive saw Poloskey hit Michael Ippolito on a 22-yard pass and then Jerome make a diving catch on 14-yard strike for the touchdown. Iqab’s point after put the Lions up 20-0 with 10:22 left in the second quarter.

Forest Hill managed a scoring drive on their next possession, sending the game to the half with Lions leading 20-7.

The second half was more of a defensive battle with Forest Hill managing the only score of the half resulting in a final score of 20-14 in the Lions’ favor. The OH offense was stymied somewhat in the second half with the loss of running back Reis Clark to an ankle sprain. Kokell reports that Clark’s injury is day-to-day with hopes he can suit up for the Royal Palm Beach game on Oct. 20.
