Taking advantage of home runs by Kaitlyn Cunningham and Kelly Montilla, the Olympic Heights softball team won its 2019 season opener at Atlantic High, trouncing the Eagles 21-3 on Tuesday afternoon.

Cunningham’s home run came in her first at bat of the season, putting the Lions ahead 2-0 in the top of the first inning. Atlantic tied the game up in the bottom of the first when an OH error allowed two Eagles runs.

However, the Lions took the lead for good with eight runs in the top of the second, highlighted by Montilla’s grand slam home run. Amanda Bosco had two RBIs in the inning, with Theresa Colandreo and Alex Perez each adding one RBI for the eight-run outburst in the second inning.

Montilla and Colandreo each had three hits and Bosco had two hits in the Lions’ 16-hit onslaught.  Perez was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs, striking out five batters and walking one over two and two-thirds innings. Hannah Zerbo pitched one and one-third innings in relief.
