2021 promises to be a banner year for gaming enthusiasts

Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War received a new update for its Zombies mode on Feb. 4.

There have been many big announcements recently for the gaming industry, and some exciting new games to look forward to this year and the coming years. Here are just a few major announcements and games to look forward to:

On Jan. 12, Disney announced the creation of Lucasfilm Games, an industry that would take ownership and be the head of all previous and future Star Wars games. Very soon after, Lucasfilm Games announced that they would be partnering with Ubisoft Games, the creators of such games as the Assassins Creed franchise and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, to make an open-world Star Wars game. So far, there have not been any other details given regarding development or release dates, so be on the lookout for any teasers by either of the industries. On top of the open-world Star Wars game, Lucasfilm Games has partnered with Bethesda and Machine Games to make an Indiana Jones game. On Feb. 4, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War received a new update for its Zombies mode. A new map was added to the game called “Firebase Z,” which is based in Vietnam. The map continues from where the story left off on “D.I.E. Maschine,” which is very exciting for players interested in the Zombies lore. 

Soon, we will be receiving some new games to play such as Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. The remake of the extremely popular Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga is very highly anticipated; however, it is unknown as to when exactly it will be released. All we know so far is to look for it during the Spring of this year. 

Hitman 3 was released for purchase on Jan. 30, two years after its original announcement. Hitman 3 is the eighth installment of the Hitman series and the third and final installment of the World of Assassination trilogy. Players get to return to the game as Secret Agent 47 and take out their target. 

Batman: Gotham Nights is getting its release on a yet-to-be disclosed date later this year; however, you, players will not be able to take on the Batman role due to the events at the end of Batman: Arkham Knight. Instead, players will take the role of Red Hood, Batgirl, Robin, and Nightwing to defend Gotham City. 

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba will also be released later this year, developed by the creators of popular games such as Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot and Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm. The game is based on the popular anime, Demon Slayer, which has just been released on Netflix. It will be a PS4 exclusive and is speculated to be a multiplayer battle royale game.
