Looking for something new to do? Here’s something different
As skiing and snowboarding are not an option, residents and visitors looking for recreational activities that are a little bit off the beaten track from the normal South Florida fare can now turn to activities that are a little bit different and a little bit new. Indoor skydiving, axe throwing, and high tech golf are just a few. Throw in some good food, and these fun seekers have all the makings for a great night out!
In recent years, entertainment venues such as Drive Shack, iFLY, Throw Social, and Bowlero have gained much popularity. Whether it be their quick and easy service, or their live entertainment, these places appeal to those of all ages.
Introducing a new way to play traditional golf, along with a variety of fun-filled golf-inspired games, Drive Shack brings a new entertainment option to West Palm Beach. According to driveshack.com, this high tech driving range offers a multitude of options ranging from “weekend brunches, birthday parties, and corporate events,” to memories “you’ll want to make the most of.” Not only does Drive Shack host special events, but there is much more in store for guests with all inclusive, “flat screens, menus, games, and 200 yards of golf’s best driving range.”
Next on the market, iFLY, provides adventurers with a once in a lifetime experience: indoor skydiving. Being a favorite for decades, iFLY came to Fort Lauderdale in early 2017 to “make the dream of flight a reality,” according to iflyworld.com. With the feeling of freefalling truly bringing this sensation to life, iFLY strives to create memories that will last a lifetime. Though some reviewers claim the high speed of the airflow makes it noisy, each person is able to “fly” from as high as 100 feet in the air. “This was an experience I will never forget,” said Olympic Heights sophomore, Alexa Haring.
Throw Social, a live entertainment venue based in Delray Beach, offers a variety of activities for each and every person. For those wanting to try the newest way to have fun, axe throwing is among one of the most popular activities offered in addition to live music, darts, ping-pong, and some of the most enjoyable food. A large variety of appetizers, salads, and hand-helds are some of the most popular items on the menu. From 4pm-8pm, Throw Social is open to all ages offering games, food, music, and much more. From 9pm-2am, however, this establishment is open only to those 21 and older.
As recently as 2021, Bowlero was opened as the newest high-tech bowling experience in Boca Raton. Whether you are looking to host a birthday party, or go out with some friends, Bowlero offers deluxe arcade games, along with 64 bowling lanes for the perfect night out. Each day of the week, Bowlero features a daily special. These specials range from Sunday Funday, to $22.49 for unlimited bowling on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. “Bowlero is one of my favorite spots in Boca!” shared OH sophomore Blake Rubin.
With each unique entertainment venue, South Florida has an option for everyone. Whether you are looking for somewhere to hang out with friends or somewhere to host your next big celebration, these places will not disappoint!
