Meghan Trainor Makes Waves in the Entertainment Industry

On the island of Nantucket, Massachusetts, an eleven year old girl scribbles songs onto sheets of paper. Although many know her from her hit single “All About That Bass,” Meghan Trainor has been writing and producing songs long before she stepped into a worldwide spotlight. Now, the twenty year old has written songs for well-known artists such as Rascal Flatts, but “All About That Bass” was truly Meghan’s big break.

While on the Today Show, Trainor was asked if she had planned to write a song with a body positive message, to which the pop star replied, “I actually walked in… and said, ‘Man, let’s write a fun song for the world… forget all the rules, let’s just write a great song.”

And she delivered. “All About That Bass” was Epic Records’ longest leading #1 single on Billboard’s Hot 100 song list, a feat that was also achieved by Michael Jackson. Both artists have had #1 singles on the same list for seven weeks. The young singer was also nominated for a New Artist of the Year American Music Award. Trainor’s single currently has over 178,000,000 views and counting on YouTube . On November 5th, Meghan Trainor will soon preform the song in a duet with Miranda Lambert at the Country Music Awards (CMAs).

“All About That Bass” impacted the lives of listeners everywhere, making them feel much more comfortable in their own skin.

“These girls sent me essays about how they hated their lives and hated themselves because of their bodies and the way people were treating them,” said Trainor. “And they said they heard my song and they said ‘Forget it, I’m just going to love myself.’ It’s insane.”

Meghan Trainor and her producer Kevin Kadish had not expected this newfound popularity.

“We told each other, ‘We’re never going to make a dime off this,’” recalls Trainor.

However, they had not realized how happy they would be to find out that they were wrong. Trainor’s song would pave the way for many other new songs and her new album Title.

Meghan Trainor released Title this September, selling over 19,000 copies so far. Title even made it on Billboard’s Top 20 Album list, only adding to Trainor’s musical accomplishments in such a short period of time.

Her album is filled with up-beat pop songs as well as sweet-sounding, slow ballads that describe what she desires out of her love life and her significant other.

Hopefully, Meghan Trainor will continue to pump out positive songs and retain an optimistic viewpoint on love in the future. Trainor recalls a piece of advice given to her after she recently became famous: “My dad gives good advice: ‘Being yourself always wins more than trying to pretend you’re someone else.’”
