Pop culture summer recap to get you caught up with the tea
Over this past summer, there has been a lot of tea! Plenty of new summer songs, movies and celebrity drama. What’s up with Tana Paul? Miley and Liam?
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth
Everyone knows that Miley and Liam have had a complicated relationship over the past 10 years. On again off again, they’ve broken up twice, each time breaking the hearts of millions of fans. On December 23 of last year, they finally got married. But already, with less than a year of marriage, they have separated.
But why? How so soon?
There have been rumors that Miley is now dating a woman, Kaitlynn Carter. Ironically Kaitlynn’s ex husband is Brody Jenner, son of Kaitlynn Jenner, formerly Bruce Jenner. It has been reported that Miley is pansexual, meaning that she is attracked to a person regardless of their gender identity. Others say that her and Hemsworth’s marriage took a tole because Liam wanted a conventional relationship, and couldn’t have that with Miley. But honestly, he will never be able to have a normal relationship. Come-on, he’s Liam Hemsworth.
Tana Mongeau and Jake Paul
You thought they were going to fall but look, now she’s Tana Paul. YouTube stars Jake Paul and Tana Mongeua finally got married in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago. Jake sealed the deal by popping the question at Tana’s 21st birthday party last month. It all happened very quickly.
Even though the wedding actually took place, people are still skeptical as to if it was even real. After the wedding a reporter from BuzzFeed went up to Logan Paul (Jake Paul’s brother), and asked him for his thoughts on the marriage. Shockingly, he said he gives the couple a “month, a month and a half” before they split up. To add to that, the newlyweds went their separate ways after the wedding ceremony. Tana left in an Uber, and Jake supposedly went to the casinos without his wife by his side. There are many blanks that aren’t filled in, in this romance.
Songs of the Summer
Over the summer, Cardi B came out with her new single “Press,” a day after she pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from a bar fight last August. Her music video reached 37.2 million views on YouTube.
Miley Cyrus also came out with a new song “Slide Away.” The song deals with knowing when to cut your losses and move on. Taylor Swift’s new song “Lover” is about loving someone so much to block out the world around you.
Normani, a former member of Fifth Harmony, dropped her first ever song and video a couple weeks ago titled “Motivation,” which reached 21.7 million views on YouTube. Ariana Grande has been mentoring Normani for some time now, and it is probably one of the best things she has ever done besides splitting up with Fifth Harmony.
Hot Movies and TV Shows
Throughout the year there have been many movie dry spots, but summer 2019 was jam packed with good movies! Beyoncé did a soundtrack for the remake of The Lion King and also voiced Nala in the movie. Will Smith played the Genie in Aladdin, and Toy Story finally came to a close with its final installment, Toy Story 4, wrapping up all the amazing childhood memories for teens to a complete fold.
Stranger Things season three came out on Netflix and fans couldn’t be more excited! Season three starts right where season two left off. Everyone remembers the Netflix drama Gossip Girl; 12 years later, HBO Max is doing a reboot! Leighton Meester, Blake Lively, Chase Crawford, Ed Westwick, and Penn Badgley have all confirmed they will return to their old roles in the reboot.
Cameron Boyce
Twenty-year-old Disney star Cameron Boyce died of a seizure while sleeping on July 6. Boyce was a successful child actor who was best known for the roles he played on Disney Channel, including Luke in the show Jessie, and Carlos in the movie series Descendants. Boyce also played a number of roles at a young age including Grown Ups, Grown Ups 2, Good Luck Charlie, Shake it Up, Liv and Maddie, Austin n’ Ally, BUNK’D, the horror film Mirrors and Ultimate Spider-man.
He completed production of Descendants 3 which is set to be released on August 3. He was supposed to appear in the HBO series Mr. Fletcher and the new TV series Paradise City. His family released a statement to E! News before any rumors could come out about his death.
The statement read, “The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him. We are utterly heartbroken and ask for privacy during this immensely difficult time as we grieve the loss of our precious son and brother.”
…and that’s the tea!
