“Faceless” Youtubers have become the new YouTube sensation. Faceless Youtubers are YouTube content creators that hide their physical identity and sometimes even their voice. The mysterious allure of faceless YouTubers has left people either intrigued about the mysterious identity behind the screen or left fans fiercely protecting their favorite faceless YouTuber’s identity.

Becoming “faceless” might seem difficult, especially when considering someone has to hide from millions of people, but many creators, such as SwaggySoulz, Dream, and Corpse Husband have managed to keep their identity completely concealed. Faceless Youtubers can simply leave their webcam off and alter their voice, or they can wear a mask to block out their face. With better technology, some faceless YouTubers have made their own animation that they use to film which can follow their movements and voices precisely.

The popularity of the faceless YouTuber Corpse Husband or CORPSE, a gamer and musician, has recently exploded. Although Corpse Husband has received recent fame and there have been faceless YouTubers prior to him, he has introduced a new era onto YouTube. Corpse Husband’s fame brought a newer demographic, from teenage-aged to young adult girls, that is being introduced to this niche of YouTube.

Typically, people who paid attention to faceless YouTubers were those part of the gaming community because it is easier to become faceless when playing a video game, but now it has ushered in a new wave of teenage girls who are becoming interested in these faceless YouTubers.

Corpse Husband began his channel in 2015 doing horror narration with his uncharacteristically deep voice. In 2020, however, he began gaming with major creators, such as PewDiePie and Jacksepticeye on the popular game “Among Us.” Once Corpse Husband began collaborating with two of the biggest gamers on YouTube, many others realized the appeal of playing video games in order to connect with friends, especially during quarantine when friends were unable to physically see each other.

Despite the success that comes from being a faceless YouTuber, there are significant burdens that come from it. Whether a faceless YouTuber wants to or not, they become an advocate for privacy among creators. YouTubers have struggled with privacy because they develop closer relationships with their supporters, causing many to invade the creator’s privacy by finding out their address, or other overly-specific details about their favorite creators. The fact of the matter is, some people just don’t want to be found.

These curious creators have not only brought new meaning to being content creators, but they have also become advocates, whether intentionally or unintentionally, for privacy among content creators.
